Nuriza Tukiran

PhD Student

Biography

Nuriza is a Research Assistant in Psychoneuroimmunology and is beginning her PhD with the MBP Lab at King’s College London. She holds a BSc in Neuroscience from the University of Manchester and an MSc in Clinical Neuroscience from University College London.

Her research focuses on the biological mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders, with a particular interest in inflammation, neurogenesis, and brain–body interactions. Within the MBP Lab, she has used cellular models to investigate long-COVID depression and psychiatric and neurological disorders, as well as investigating whether focused ultrasound can reduce inflammation in a “depression-in-a-dish” model.

Her PhD research will investigate the biological mechanisms underlying bipolar disorder, focusing on the relationship between peripheral molecular signatures, brain-cell phenotypes, and clinical outcomes.

Alongside her research, Nuriza is a Writer and Assistant Editor for Inspire the Mind, where she explores topics at the intersection of science, society, and mental health.
